The two mid-to-late-period albums To Rococo Rot released on Domino were dreamy exercises in the Berlin-based band's warm, human electronica. Stylish, modest, and heartfelt, when they locked things together as To Rococo Rot, the Lippok brothers and Stefan Schneider had it all.

Returning for a ninth album together, Stefan Schneider reunites with Robert and Ronald Lippok, and it's not a moment too soon. In the years since To Rococo Rot were last on our radar, the kind of krautrock/kosmische lineage (of which they are undoubtedly a part) has been more broadly recognised within pop music, and so given all the Cluster throwbacks and Neu-worshiping newbs out there.

After a few releases for Domino, Berlin post-rock trio To Rococo Rot return to City Slang with Instrument. This homecoming doesn’t prevent them from venturing into new musical territories. For the first time ever, the band leaves behind their purely instrumental approach, and have invited US vocalist Arto Lindsay to compose and sing melodies.
  6. Dujora says:
To Rococo Rot's first proper album in six years (their sixth overall) finds the veteran "listening electronica" trio returning refreshed and reinvigorated, after the rather staid, perhaps overly-familiar Hotel Morgen, with their loosest, least electronic work to date.

To Rococo Rot were an influential Berlin-based trio who combined electronic and analog elements to create instrumental post-rock and electronic music. Pitchfork described the band's sound as "unmistakably digital, yet % human."
